Ole Henriksen Power Bright Review

A couple weeks ago I received the Ole Henriksen Power Bright box in the mail from Influenster. I was pretty pumped because I love skin care but I've never tried this brand before. I had seen these products in Sephora before but had always passed over them because I didn't know how great they were and I'm really bad at trying new skin care products because I'm afraid they'll wreck my skin. (P.S. If you missed my unboxing video, check it out by clicking here!)

So let's get right to the contents!
The first part I tested was the Power Bright. This contains three steps: a polishing mask, vitamin C concentrate, and a cleanser. All three steps go together and there are instructions for how long to leave each step on. Check out what each step looks like when it's on and then my skin immediately after below:
Step 1. Polishing Mask
Step 2. Vitamin C Concentrate
Step 3. Melting Cleanser
Post Power Bright
My skin was incredibly soft and smooth when I was finished. I followed with the other two steps in the box: Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster and Sheer Transformation. Again my skin was still so smooth I couldn't stop touching it (I know so bad for it but y'all it was so soft!!).

Now I was a little worried that my skin would freak out and I would end up breaking out. I had some blemishes on my chin when I did this and I didn't want them to get worse. But moving forward I stuck with my normal cleanser after doing the Power Bright but switched out my moisturizer for the collagen booster and moisturizer (the Sheer Transformation). Y'all my skin hasn't been this clear in I don't remember how long. I don't usually struggle with acne but I've felt like my skin is just kinda 'meh' and dull lately. I love my skin again!! I hate wearing makeup over it now it looks so great!

Granted this picture was taken on my phone, but I just snapped a quick selfie to capture how my skin just seemed to glow. This was also post walk around the neighborhood so there's definitely no blush or bronzer on my skin at this point. Not to brag too much, but I really love my skin!

Overall I absolutely LOVE these products. The collagen booster and moisturizer have done wonders for my skin. For the most part it's less oily than it usually is (praise the Lord!) and I haven't struggled with a single breakout since starting it. I may be an Ole Henriksen convert after this! The prices are a little steeper than what I currently use, but for skin this great you definitely get what you pay for. I've linked each product below so you can check them out for yourself!
Power Bright ($55) // This comes with 6 little trios. The instructions say to use it three times a week. Maybe if you could use each pod twice it might be worth it? I could see this being used once a week and still giving amazing results though!

Truth Serum Collagen Booster ($48-$72) // This stuff is worth the money! I have some crows feet popping up and I swear this stuff has filled them in. Plus, you only use it at night and a little goes a very long way so even the small bottle will end up lasting a long time.
Sheer Transformation ($14-$65) // Again definitely worth the money!! What's funny is that it's not even listed as being a moisturizer marketed for oily skin but it's done wonders for my very oily skin. It's so light which is perfect for summer. This moisturizer is made to even your skin tone and it's definitely smoothed mine out. My face can get red places on it and it's definitely helped keep them at bay and keep my skin looking smooth and even.

If I had to recommend one product it would definitely be the moisturizer. The other products are wonderful but the moisturizer has done wonders for my skin in just two weeks. I'm almost out because I got the tiny jar and I can't wait until I get paid so I can buy a bigger jar.

Have you ever tried Ole Henriksen? Do you love it or is there another brand you love more? I'd love to hear about them! Let me know in the comments, ask me a question on Twitter or Instagram, or send me a snapchat (aerichardson)!

Pineapple Shirt

This post contains affiliate links, and I will earn a small commission if you shop through them.

Top: Cents of Style | Skirt: Target (similar) | Shoes: TJ Maxx (similar) | Bracelets: Cents of Style (similar) and Charming Charlie (similar) | Earrings: Kohls (similar) | Necklace: similar

Ever since I got this pineapple shirt I've had to remind myself that I have other shirts I need to wear. It's just so comfy, but my favorite part is that it's long! I don't like when shirts hit just below my belt so when they're a little longer I want to wear them all the time. And this skirt!! I bought it wayyyy back in December I think and I'm always looking for reasons to wear it (even though I rarely find a reason...I should just make one up). I loved mixing the green and the pink because it gives this outfit a good summer vibe. This would make a great date night outfit in the summer. I bought these wedges at TJ Maxx and they're so comfy I've literally danced all night in them.

Check out these other great graphic tops from Cents of Style (click on the picture to go to the website):

July Birchbox: Unboxed

Is it weird I felt like they knew it was my birthday this month because I got 6 samples instead of 5? I'm sure most people got 6, but it's nice to think of it as a special birthday gift!

1. Benefit They're Real! Lengthening Mascara ($24) // I've heard about this mascara from some of my favorite bloggers but I've never been willing to fork out $24 to try something I may not like. But y'all, this stuff is amazing. I totally understand why bloggers rave about this mascara! It's great at not only making your lashes super long, but also keeping them really separated so you don't have chunks of lashes. Seriously I'm buying a full size tube as soon as I can!

2. Balance Me Radiance Face Mask ($34) // I'm a sucker for a face mask. I only got to use this once, but as soon as I took it off my skin felt incredibly soft. I'm not sure if it's really makes your skin brighter over time, but if my skin can feel that soft after using it? I'm in.

3. DevaCurl Low-Poo Delight Weightless Waves Mild Lather Cleanser ($22) // I've always been curious about the whole no-poo/low-poo thing (where you either don't use shampoo or use special shampoo that doesn't foam as much) but I've never committed. So I was excited and skeptical of this stuff. I mean the whole point of shampoo is to foam up, right? This stuff hardly foams at all which is kinda weird because it made me feel like I didn't use enough, but I stuck to the suggested amount and my hair feels amazing! It's for wavy/curly hair and I definitely think it made a difference in how it dried - way wavier than I've ever seen it. I love this stuff!!

4. LOC Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil ($12) // Now I know some of you may be thinking this is like a lip liner but it's not! It's just lip gloss in pencil form. I got the color Cupid's Bow and it was a beautiful watermelon color. It's not super pigmented so your lips are going to scream "HOT PINK LIPSTICK" or anything. But, I did notice that it wore off pretty easily. I talked to some other people about it and they said they used a lip liner with it and it helped boost its staying power. I'm not sure I would commit to using a liner just for this stuff, but the color is fantastic!

5. Shiseido ULTIMUNE EYE Power Infusing Eye Concentrate ($65) // This is a brand I've always heard about but have never tried (I mean look at the price tag) but I totally get why people love it! I'll probably still stick with my Mary Kay eye cream, but this stuff really held its own against my favorite eye product!

6. Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate ($67) // Wow y'all. I love this stuff!! I put it on like a moisturizer and holy moly does it make your skin feel amazing! I noticed my skin didn't get quite as oily when I wore this which for me is a huge deal. It's really light but it seriously made my skin feel so well-moisturized all day. If this weren't so expensive, I would have bought a full size bottle already!

What a great birthday month Birchbox! Have y'all ever tried any of these samples before or did you get any of these in your Birchbox? I'd love to hear about them in the comments!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Wish List

If you follow any fashion bloggers, you've probably heard about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (aka #NSale). I've never been a Nordstrom shopper, but this sale turned me last year. I picked up a couple fall pieces that I fell in love with! Plus, the prices make their items much more manageable for my grad student budget. From now until July 21 it's all early access meaning you have to have a Nordstrom debit/credit card. Thankfully Nordstrom re-stocks a lot of the items that sold out during early access before opening it up to the public.

I love shopping, even if it's just window shopping online. So I did just that on Nordstrom's website and compiled all of my favorites that I really hope to see this fall.

Leith Shawl Collar Cocoon Cardigan ($49.90) // I'm in love with longer cardigans this year. I can't wait until it's cool enough to wear them with jeans and booties. Something about the length just makes it seem so cozy!

BP. Short Sleeve High/Low Tee ($15.90) // I'm all about the simple tees y'all. It's all I've been wearing lately. I love the rich colors this top comes in - they're perfect for fall! Plus it even comes in a long sleeved version which is perfect for layering once it gets cooler.

Leith Dolman Dress ($38.90) // I love the colors this dress comes in! Again, so perfect for fall! And it's under $40 so you can't beat that.

BLANKNYC 'Easy Rider' Faux Leather Moto Jacket ($64.90) // Every year I want a leather jacket because I think they're just so versatile. Pair it with soft feminine colors to tone it down or rock it with distressed jeans and booties for an edgier look. Maybe this will finally be the year I get one!

Kate Spade New York Mini Small Square Stud Earrings ($20.90) // I got earrings similar to these from a friend for my birthday last year and I wear them every single day. They're big enough to make a statement but not obnoxiously huge!

Lucky Brand 'Bashina' Perforated Bootie ($89.90) // I can't wait to wear booties again! I love warm weather but boots are my favorite shoe. These perforated booties would be perfect transition shoes too.

Hinge Wool Round Crown Hat ($28.90) // I bought a floppy hat for the summer but I didn't wear it as much as I anticipated (chemistry labs are incredibly impractical for hats in general!). But I would love to think that if I had this hat I would wear it every chance I got.

Tory Burch Mini Leather Crossbody Bag ($233.90) // Crossbody bags are my favorite because your hands are free. And this Tory Burch crossbody is so perfect for fall and winter! The burgundy color is so rich and just screams "splurge on me!!"

BP. Open Front Cardigan ($31.90) // Another long cardigan that I'm mildly obsessed with. Really I should just get one, but they come in all kinds of colors!

Zella 'Live In' Leggings ($33.90) // I bought these leggings a while ago and oh my word they're perfect for fall and winter! They're thick so you won't feel exposed wearing them with boots and a long top. Plus once it gets really cold they're great at insulating!

I have a ton more items on my wish list, but these are my favorites. Seriously if I somehow came into some extra cash I would go for these items. Last night I actually scrolled through everything on sale in the women's department and these are still my favorites. This sale makes me want fall to be here so bad! I'm tired of hot weather - I just want to wear sweaters and boots all day every day.

Have you had a chance to scroll through the sale? Is there anything I didn't mention that you're totally in love with? I'd love to hear about it!

Update: Here's the picture from Instagram with the links to the items (or similar items) currently on sale

Y'all I'm so sorry I've been failing at these work week outfit posts. Between traveling to California for a conference and trying to get back into research, life has been a little crazy. Chemistry kinda consumed my life more than normal! Don't get me wrong I totally love chemistry still, but I started feeling a little smothered.

Smothered feeling or not, I definitely didn't get incredibly creative with my outfits this week. I was all about comfort and function. I picked up these shoes in San Francisco and oh my gosh y'all they are AMAZING!! They're so comfortable! Seriously I could wear them every day (I mean clearly I could because I did).

Now onto the something extra! I received this Ole Henrikson Power Bright box from Influenster complimentary to test three products and give my review of them. To start, I made a video of me unboxing the box (because it's kinda like Christmas!). You can check it out below or click here to watch it. In about a week or so I'll be posting my thoughts and reviews on these products as well as linking them if you want to try them!

7 Things To Do In A Small Town

Small towns are great! I grew up in one and now I'm in grad school in one. My college town was more of a small city, but still the small theme has continued throughout my life. I love small towns because there's a really great sense of community and hospitality that isn't as common in big cities. That may also just be the midwest, but still. I hear a lot of people complain about small towns because they're bored. Trust me, I have my days where I'm itching to get out and move to a big city (I still might do that but just to experience it). But overall, I'm pretty content in a smaller town. So today's post is totally dedicated to sharing my favorite things to do in a small town.

  1. Hit up the farmer's market. This is my favorite!! Oxford is a little farming town so the farmer's market is unbelievable. Not only is this a great way to support local farmers, but you also get to meet new people. Ask the vendors about their food! There's one guy at our farmer's market who loves to give you a little extra lettuce if you ask him about it. I also talk to the lady I buy my herbs and flowers from almost every week about what else I can do to make sure they're growing as well as they can.
  2. Enjoy nature. If your small town is in the middle of nowhere like mine, there's bound to be hiking trails and lots of nature nearby. We have a state park about 7 miles north of town. It has some great hiking trails and a beautiful little lake where you can kayak. Or you can drive about 15 miles west into Indiana and go canoeing down the Whitewater River. Whatever you fancy, there's usually nature to spare around small towns.
  3. Watch the local high school sports. This isn't something I've done yet, but I'm not sure why. As much as I love college and pro football, there's something so wonderful about a Friday night football game in the fall. Sports seem to be a big part of small towns - everyone goes to the home games! It's a great way to get out and really dive into the community.
  4. Play your own sports. Oxford has a wonderful community park with a sand volleyball court, so every Tuesday and Thursday a group of us gets together and plays volleyball when it's warm. Not only does this get us all out of the lab, but you can also get to know your town better. Most community parks have more than just one thing going on in them. Our park has soccer fields, baseball/softball diamonds, basketball courts, and a playground. There's always families around when it's nice outside so it's a great way to meet people.
  5. Walk around downtown. Unless you live in Oxford then it's called "Uptown." Small towns have a knack for featuring some adorable little mom-and-pop shops. You're also bound to come across at least one antique store. Take a few hours and stroll around looking through the shops - you might be surprised what you find!
  6. Eat at a local restaurant. I feel like small towns always have a couple restaurants that aren't found anywhere else! Oxford has a few places that are either exclusively only found in Oxford or might have one to two other locations in Ohio. There's also a high chance that there's a local coffee shop that isn't Starbucks. Thankfully Oxford has two (#coffeeaddict) and I love them both!
  7. Check out the local festivals. My favorite part about Oxford is the annual wine festival at the end of May. Uptown shuts down and wine vendors from all over come to town. There's also food, arts and crafts, and live music. It's such a fun day! There's also an apple butter festival at the state park north of town every fall complete with apple butter (obviously), great food, arts and crafts, and live animals. While these might not compete with festivals in big cities, there's something so fun about a small town festival where everyone knows everyone.
There y'all go! Those are 7 of my favorite things to do in a small town. Do y'all have any other fun activities that you do in a small town? I'd love to hear all about them!

26 at 26 (Birthday Post!)

Tomorrow I'll be 26. Closer to 30 than to 20. Scary and exciting all at the same time. So to celebrate me being another year older, I thought I would list 26 things about me. Other than my 50 things that bring me joy post, I don't think I've ever told you about myself!

1. I love the Lord.
2. I'm an introvert.
3. I actually enjoy chemistry.
4. I'm a very proud Hoosier.
5. I love my cat so much, but I'm still a dog person. Weird right?
6. I have time control issues (or just control issues in general).
7. I laugh easily and a lot.
8. I love sweet tea.
9. I want to live where it's fall 75% of the year.
10. I was a lifeguard in high school.

12. I love to shoot guns.
13. I technically have 20/20 vision but I still need reading glasses.
14. I have two fake teeth.
15. I'm a neat freak at work but definitely not at home.
16. I was in choir all four years of high school.
17. I played softball for 10 years.

26. I'm excited about being 26 (even though I've had my freakout moments).

There y'all go! 26 things about me you may or may not have known. I really do mean the last point. As much as I've freaked out about being 26 and having to buy my own health insurance, I am genuinely excited about it. But if you have any advice on getting your own health insurance I'd love to hear it (or any advice about being 26 in general)!
