August Birchbox: Unboxed

I think this was one of my favorite Birchboxes in a while. I actually have three of the five products in my cart on Birchbox. The only reason the other two aren't in there is because the same size is actually pretty big! Keep reading to hear about the samples I'm obsessing over.

1. Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray ($39) // My first impression is that it smells so yummy. I actually love the way all of the Oribe products I've tried smell. I like this spray because it gave my hair more texture than the dry texturizing spray does. It helped my curls stay in longer, even in the insane humidity we've been dealing with lately. I didn't really notice if it made my hair shiner, but I want a full size bottle of stuff regardless!

2. Hey Honey Trick and Treat Cream Concealer ($32) // I don't remember saying what color skin I have in my Birchbox personalization survey but this stuff matched so well! And it stayed on so well (again in this awful humidity!) which was really impressive. It didn't settle into lines during the day either.

3. Manna Kadar Cosmetics Day Dream Palette ($25) // I've never heard of this brand but y'all. I used this color on my lids and throughout the day it didn't crease at all! Like not even a little bit. I was so amazing. This color could be used as eyeshadow, blush, or highlighter. I used it as both eyeshadow and highlighter and I'm totally sold. Also the palette itself comes with six eyeshadows, two highlighters, one contour, and one blush. So mostly definitely worth the $25!

4. Benefit goof proof brow pencil ($24) // I really love Benefit's brow products. Like I want them all. But so far out of what I've tried, this pencil is probably my favorite. It's super easy to apply and so so hard to over fill your brows. It even stayed on during my workout which was probably most impressive because with all the humidity and heat, I'm literally dripping sweat when I'm done running (sorry for that visual!).

5. Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer ($28) // Another product that smells so yummy!! Now I'm not sure what my hair would have looked like without it but I'm pretty sure this stuff kept my hair from getting super crazy frizzy. This primer is sitting in my Birchbox cart waiting for my next paycheck!

I really loved all of these products! Birchbox stepped up their game this month! If you've been thinking about taking the plunge for Birchbox, I really suggest you try it out. And if you don't like it, you're not locked in a contract.

Hey y'all! If you've been keeping an eye on fall trends, one trend that I think will take the spotlight this fall is gypsy soul. Cents of Style has some great pieces that would be easy to incorporate into your fall wardrobe. Below I've put together some (theoretical) outfits that ooze gypsy soul. Plus scroll to the bottom for a sweet discount!

Top | Kimono | Jeans (not Cents of Style) | Booties

Top | Jeans (not Cents of Style) | Booties

I love all of these outfits. I can totally see these pieces being in my wardrobe this fall! They also have other pieces that would be a great fit for any fall wardrobe:

If being so far out scares you, try adding smaller pieces like jewelry or sunglasses or wear the Gypsy Soul t-shirt so people know you're all about this trend! I love that all of these pieces can be incorporated into my current wardrobe. The booties and tops would all look great with skinny jeans.

BONUS: This week if you use the code GYPSYSOUL at checkout, you'll get 20% off on the entire Gypsy Soul Collection!

Do you think the gypsy soul trend is one you'll follow this fall? What pieces would you love to have in your wardrobe?

Half-Up Hairstyles for Short, Thick Hair

Hey y'all! It's been a hot minute since I did a hair post. I got great feedback on the post where I showed how I curl my hair so I figured it's time to make another one. This one is all about some of my favorite hairstyles: half-up hair. These styles are perfect for those days I want my hair down, but I'm working in the lab so it needs to stay out of my face. But before we get too far into hairstyles, I wanted to share what products I use to keep my hair in place.

First, I prep my hair with a little texture. I either use Batiste Dry Shampoo or Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. Both products give my super fine hair some grip. Once my hair is styled, I use my favorite hairspray, TRESemme Perfectly Undone Hairspray. This is a fine control hairspray so it doesn't make you hair hard or sticky. I use it every single day because it holds all sorts of styles so well!

Now the hairstyles!

1. Halfway French Braid
This is my favorite. I get so many compliments on it! Plus, as long as you know how to French braid, it's super easy. If not, check out this awesome tutorial here. All I do for this hairstyle is French braid my hair until I've braided half of my hair (usually to just at my ears), then braid that hair the rest of the way down without adding more hair. I love this style because it's easy to get volume on top and my front pieces tend to fall out over the day so this style can look really soft and feminine. Set it with some hairspray and you're good to go!

2. Twisted Half-Up
This is just a play on your typical half-up hairstyle. I saw a similar style on The Small Things Blog and immediately fell in love! I personally love to use all the hair in the back as opposed to just front pieces just so I can boost the volume (the higher the hair the closer to Jesus).

3. Retro Twist Half-Up
I really struggled with a name for this one. But the way I twist the hair kind of reminds me of the retro pin-up style. This was is super quick to do. I just twist a small section of hair on each side and with each full twist, I add a little more until I've used half of that half (so a quarter of my hair). I secure it with a clip while I twist the other side, then bring them together and secure with an elastic. To add a little bit of fancy-ness to it, I wrapped a small piece of hair around to cover the elastic.

I love half-up hairstyles so much because there's so much you can do! All of these are also great for thick hair! I usually use a little more than half of my hair just so there's not this huge amount laying on my neck, which is super helpful in the summer. Do you have any favorite half-up hairstyles? I'd love to hear about them!

Neon Pink Swing Dress

Dress: Gap | Shoes: TJ Maxx (similar) | Earrings: Premier Designs (similar) | Bracelets: Charming Charlie, Premier Designs (similar, similar, similar) | Necklace: Premier Designs (similar)

I got this neon pink swing dress from Gap closer to the beginning of the summer. It's so fun to wear! I love the swing of it and the color is just perfect for summer! I paired it with mint and gold jewelry for something a little unexpected and I love the way it turned out.

Also if you saw my Instagram post yesterday, I wore one of my new favorite outfits to church that is going to be a perfect transition outfit once fall weather starts moving in. Unfortunately we're not getting cooler weather anytime soon, but it's nice to dream about! I linked the whole outfit below:
Tank top: Old Navy | Vest: Kohls | Jeans: American Eagle | Shoes: Target
