Athleisure Outfit

Hey y'all! Did you hit up any awesome sales Monday? My favorite was Old Navy and Gap. I just love their clothes so when they're 50% off I stock up on my favorites!

Today I want to talk about a trend that's been around just this year: Athleisure. What is athleisure? It's a style that brings workout clothes into every day life. Meeting your best friend up for brunch? Throw on a pair of leggings, tank top, and a duster cardigan. Running errands and want to be cute but comfy? Leggings, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket. If you're still unsure, check out this article. It explains it so well! You'll likely find me in some variation of this outfit on the weekends. I've also been known to wear this into work on occasion or when I go shopping.

My rules for sporting the athleisure look? Rule #1: Wear something structured. I tend to wear my workout tops with a little more room - meaning they can end up looking baggy. But by throwing on a vest or a structured jacket (leather, denim, utility), it brings it all together. Rule #2: Stick to neutrals. I know vibrant colors have started taking over workout clothes, but I love my neutrals. It keeps everything simple and understated - the exact reason we all love athleisure!

How do you feel about this trend? Are you glad it's here or are you ready to see it phase out?

Flare Jeans and Monogram Necklaces

Has anyone else noticed how popular flare jeans are again? I rocked the crap out of these in middle school and I'm actually so excited they're back! My favorite way to wear them is with heeled booties because they make your legs look so long. I like to balance out the wide bottom of the jeans with a more fitted top. I love this Old Navy shirt because it's so soft and comfy...but it's also a little plain. So to add some dimension I tossed on this vest from J.Crew Factory. Also, these jeans are high waisted which is perfect if you're self-conscious about your tummy area like me!

Quick note about my monogram necklace: I told you all in this post that I found it on Etsy and it looks just like this one from BaubleBar but it's a fraction of the cost (both are yellow gold plated)! After wearing it nearly every day since then, I can say that it doesn't tarnish with everyday wear (I was concerned it would turn green). This would make a great Christmas present for any lady in your life!

How To Tie A Blanket Scarf

Ohio has had the craziest weather! Friday it was 72 degrees but Saturday it barely got up into the 40s. I'm a cold weather gal so Saturday was my favorite! When it gets cold, it's also way easier to keep a blanket scarf on all day. And since Thanksgiving is this Thursday (how crazy?!), I thought I would show you how I tie my blanket scarf, especially since I wear it the same every. single. time.

Quick note: I'm using a square blanket scarf in this tutorial. You can absolutely wear rectangular blanket scarves, but the steps won't make as much sense since rectangles don't fold like squares.

First, I start by unfolding the whole blanket scarf so it's in a big ol' square.

Next, I fold in in half like a triangle. From here, depending on the look I want I'll do one of two things. If I want my scarf to look less bulky, I'll roll the longest edge to make the triangle shorter (the length doesn't change, just the distance from the bottom point to the long edge). If I want a bulkier look, I won't roll the edge.

Holding onto the corners, bring the scarf under your chin and cross the pieces behind your head.

Bring the corners down and tuck them under the scarf in the front. Helpful tip: If you find your scarf is shifting a lot during the day, tie the corner pieces loosely and tuck them under the bulk of the scarf. I do this basically every single time I wear a blanket scarf!

Alternatively, you can also shift the scarf to one shoulder for a chic look that gives me a major Parisian vibe. Or if it's a little too warm to wrap the scarf around your neck, you can follow the first two steps but just drape it around your neck with the corners hanging down in front.

Below I linked some cute but totally affordable (aka under $50!) blanket scarves. These would make great gifts for a girlfriend! But I want to know: what's your favorite way to wear a blanket scarf?

Cold Shoulder Top

Similar top linked below | Jeans | Booties | Similar necklace

I picked up this cold shoulder top a while ago at TJ Maxx. Honestly I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but I love the cold shoulder trend. (Hint: This is not actually a good reason to buy a top!) Thankfully once I put it on, I loved it. I think the color and the way it feels makes it a little dressier so I really look forward to going out with friends and wearing this.

Now I couldn't find this exact top online so I linked some similar cold shoulder tops below!

Everyday Natural Makeup

Hello friends! Today's post is all about my everyday makeup look. Since there's many days I'm running between labs, I keep it neutral and simple and save the crazy trends for the weekend! So let's just jump right in because this could end up being a long post if I talk too much.

First I always start with my skin! Always always always. I've fallen in love with micellar water. I've tried a few different brands. Now I know Simple Micellar Water is pictured here, but my favorite I've determined is Garnier SkinActive. I use the Mary Kay Men's Eye Cream and Mary Kay TimeWise Moisturizer twice a day every day to keep my eyes bright and my skin smooth.
Then it's makeup time! This is a picture of all the makeup I use. Below I listed everything from left to right. I linked the brushes I used at the very bottom of the post too.
L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation - I wear 103 Natural Buff
Maybelline Master Conceal - I use 30 Light/Medium
Sephora Eyeshadow Palette - I love the Nude to Neutral palette
Milani Baked Blush - I wear Dolce Pink

Now for how I apply all of this stuff!
Like I said I start by cleaning my skin.
I follow the micellar water up with eye cream and moisturizer. Once that's done, I move on to primer, foundation, and concealer. All in that order! I use my fingers for the primer but a beauty blender for the foundation and concealer.
I prep my eyelids with eyelid primer before applying eyeshadow and eyeliner. Y'all. This stuff makes a real difference!! I've run 8 miles and my eyeshadow didn't budge. This stuff is no joke!
I apply eyeliner to my upper lid after eyeshadow and follow up with lots of mascara. I love the MK mascara because you don't need primer and you get long, thick lashes. It's the only mascara I'll use. I always do my brows because I'm convinced it makes my face look more put together even if I skimp on the rest of my makeup. Strong brows strong life amiright?
I always put eyeliner on the bottom lash line just to make my eyes pop a little more. I'll skip this step if I'm going for a more natural "no makeup" look, but most days I'll line my bottom lash line.
I usually do blush, dark contour, highlight. And blend blend blend!! The last thing any woman wants is to have the sharp dark line from contour. I know people have their expensive contour palettes that they love, but I can't get enough of my cheap-o e.l.f. palette. It's the best! And it lasts for soooo long! I bought this one last Christmas and I'm no where near finishing it.
Top it off with some lipstick and you're good to go! I've gotten this whole routine down to about 7-8 minutes, which is great for the days I wake up later than anticipated.

And one last photo because my cat jumped up halfway through these pictures just to see what was going on. Even when I wear a black shirt I can't help but snuggle her!

The Coziest Cardigan Ever

I snagged this cardigan way back in July at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I've been waiting so long for the weather to cooperate enough to wear it. It's easily the coziest cardigan I've ever owned. It's really thick and keeps you super warm.

A quick note about my monogram necklace. I ordered this as a "you submitted your first paper!" gift to myself. Now I know a lot of other bloggers get theirs from places like BaubleBar or boutique stores, but they tend to be pretty pricey. But before you spend a hundred bucks or more on a monogram necklace, check out this Etsy shop. I got mine for under $40! I know people might worry about the quality, but the necklace is gorgeous! I've gotten so many compliments on it, both from friends and strangers. (I'm not getting paid or getting anything in return to tell you about this shop. I just love my necklace so much!) Hopefully it holds up well, but I'll keep y'all updated on it!
