Life Update + My First Reader Survey!

Hello friends! If you haven't noticed, I've been pretty quiet lately both on the blog and on social media. I promise I haven't forgotten anything I've been doing on here (aka The Single Series!). Grad school is just so crazy right now so I had to make the decision to step back from blogging for a little while. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things soon, but while I figure timelines out, I thought I would share what has been going on:

  • I presented my dissertation up to this point to my committee at a meeting we call our 6-month conference. It's a conference you give about 6 months before you plan to defend and your committee gives you guidance and suggests a defense month. It isn't an exam - just a time to chat with PhDs who have been through this process already. I'm currently working toward a defense date later in the summer this year! It's crazy how quickly stuff is moving now!
  • I'm applying for jobs. This is taking way more time than I ever anticipated! I'm not limiting myself to a certain state so I'm literally looking all over the country. Seriously though if you know of anyone wanting a PhD chemist who specializes in chromatography, let me know!
  • I'm prepping for a conference next week. It's time for Pittcon aka the analytical chemistry conference of the year. It's being held in Chicago and I can't wait. However, it also means I'm super busy because I'm taking two posters and I'm giving a talk...all on three different projects. Talk about a juggling act! Also feel free to hit me up with your favorite places to eat/drink/hang out in Chicago. We have free time to explore and we're staying on Magnificent Mile so hopefully we're close to most things!
  • I'm learning how to deal with stress and anxiety in a healthier way. That means working out, being intentional about prepping my food for the week, and just letting things go whether that's permanently or for a couple months. I've been working out so much this month and it's seriously helped my stress level come down a few notches. I'm trying to make healthy-ish foods to complement my workout routine. And finally I'm giving myself a few extra helpings of grace by placing a few things to side. Sadly one of those things has been blogging. I started to feel bad because I felt like I was failing as a blogger. I couldn't balance everything. But y'all grace is good. Especially God's grace. I've been sweetly reminded that Jesus conquered my failure on the cross and put it to death. So yeah...showing myself grace has helped immensely!

And I think that's about it! I'm just living a grad student life that's only getting busier since I'm hoping to graduate in 6-ish months.
