Be Brave

Be brave. It's a phrase we probably heard a lot as a kid. But it's a phrase that's really taken a new meaning lately. I've recently had two on-site interviews with two big companies - one in Chicago, the other in north Jersey. I'm also still searching for jobs a little closer to home.

I love my family. My immediate family is in south-central Indiana, though I have extended family all over. My nieces are getting so big and I feel so guilty missing things in their lives. I'm super close with my parents, especially my momma, so the thought of being so far away I can't go home just for dinner gives me mild anxiety.

But chemistry jobs aren't found just anywhere. They tend to be near big cities - with the highest concentration being on the east coast. To do the math for you, that's at least a 10 hour drive from my parents. So realizing that it's very possible that I'll be moving far away has me slightly terrified.

Recently, I heard the song You Make Me Brave by Bethel Music on the radio. Here's some of the words that really got to me:
For you are for us, you are not against us
So I will let you draw me out beyond the shore into your grace
You make me brave, you make me brave
You call me out beyond the shore into the waves
Moving away from family would be one of the biggest steps of faith I've ever taken. In college I was an hour and a half from home. In grad school I'm just over two hours from home. But looking at potentially being 10+ hours from home? That's a whole different ballgame!

Which is exactly why I chose this shirt from Cents of Style. Looking at my future job possibilities, it's going to take a whole lot of bravery to move away from my comfort zone. I can get really bogged down overthinking a possible move - to the point where I'm nearly crying I'm so scared to move. But hearing that song by Bethel reminds me that the Lord calls us out onto the shores and right into the waves. He is for us y'all! Another line in the song says "No fear can hinder now the promises you made" and how encouraging is that! No matter how fearful we may be, God's promises will prevail!

One more thing that's helped is repeating something I heard from Jill Briscoe at IF:Gathering this year. She said that obedience comes before courage. Think about that. We must first be obedient before we're given the courage to really move forward in our obedience.

Regardless if you're contemplating a big life change or just trying to decide whether or not to wear that bold lip color, just do it! Go for it! Be brave my sweet friend because you've totally got this! Plus, Cents of Style has a lot of other "be...." shirts available in this sale! I included a couple pictures below. If you want to shop them, use the code BESTORY to get your shirt for only $15.95 through Sunday April 30! These would make a great Mother's Day or graduation present too!

On Trend: Spring Kimonos

This post contains affiliate links, and I will earn a small commission if you shop through them.

Hey y'all! Long time to blog! Quick life update: I'm currently interviewing with a couple companies so a lot of my time has been spent prepping for those interviews. Also since they're all talking about start dates in August/September I'm really pushing to graduate before them! So I've been writing a ton lately trying to finish up another chapter by the end of the semester, as well as making sure the last bits of research are getting done so I can write those chapters up. Other than that life has been good just lots of grad school-ing!

Okay so onto the point of today's post: spring kimonos. You may remember from the fall when I posted this outfit with the kimono from Charming Charlie. Well kimonos didn't stay in the fall! They're here in the spring and so on trend right now! I love how easy they are. Just pick a solid colored shirt (t-shirt, tank top, whatever!) and throw one on for instant style upgrade.

Of course buying trendy items is always a gamble. There's the chance that this trend will end up lasting forever and becoming a staple. Or it might literally only last one season. That makes it hard for me to spend a lot of money on any trendy piece. But this weekend Cents of Style is having a sale on all their kimonos! They're giving you 50% their kimonos (and ponchos!) + free shipping with code KIMONO17. This makes the most expensive kimono just $20!

There are couple fun ways to wear kimonos this spring:
1. Over jeans, wedges, and a tank top for date night
2. With frayed shorts and lace-up sandals for a festival/boo-hoo look
3. Over your swimsuit as a coverup when you head to the pool

No joke y'all I'll probably order a few! I have my eye on one of the white and blue ones (which just screams Greece/Mediterranean to me!) and one with fringe on the edges. But seriously at under $20 a piece, it's easy to spend the money on it even if it is a trendier piece.

Do you like the kimono trend? Let me know if you pick on up! But don't forget you only have until Sunday to take advantage of this sale!
